We all know that Yoga is supposed to be a relaxing, meditative exercise that gets you all set and ready for the rest of your day. But now, you can achieve the same results by doing something which is totally the opposite. Rage Yoga is a practice which aims to calm you down and try to get you fitter by enjoying a beer, and by shouting and swearing.
The founder of Rage Yoga is Lindsay Istace, she explains on her website that her method is “a practice which involves a lot of stretching and positional exercises and even more of bad humor, with the aim of attaining good health and to become ZEN AF. Rage Yoga is not just a practice, it’s an attitude.”
Lindsay said that she “felt out of place” attending regular yoga classes. She explains more and says that it made her feel like she was standing in a library full of gymnasts.” So, she decided to create the thing which helped her a lot, Rage Yoga.
“Rage Yoga gave me a strong body-mind connection, and it also gave a new appreciation to my body. It thought me how to slow my mind, how to feel good in my body and how to build some decent pipes while I was at it. It also helped me to overcome my addiction and a lot of personal obstacles, and most importantly, it kept me sane and healthy!”
Rage Yoga instructor at Brash Brewery in Houston, Texas, Ashley Duzich, told CBS DFW that “some people really need to release and let go.”
She also says that one of the effective ways for a person to get in touch with himself is to get angry. Ashley also says that “Yoga’s true meaning is union, so get united with yourself, and that’s not always by staying super-calm, breathing, practicing quiet time, like all yoga places are usually are.”
“We are all angry about something in our lives, and we have been holding onto that anger which is like an ‘F’-bomb for quite some time. So, what Rage Yoga can give you is it allows you to have a safe place in order for you to let all of your frustration and rage out in a healthy way…. And then it allows you to wash it all away with some ice-cold beer.”
One of the funniest things Ashley have heard in her Rage yoga classes is, ‘I told you to do the dishes.’
There are mainly three official locations for Rage Yoga, Calgary, Edmonton, and Houston, hopefully, they will be able to add more locations soon for the rest of us.
According to the website, aspiring Rage Yoga instructors can take them a three-day course for them to learn the method in order for them to take this irreverent practice back to their hometowns. However, they must have already completed a minimum of 200 hours of ordinary yoga instructor certification ad provide proof of it before taking the Rage Yoga workshop.
For those of you who are not willing to wait for a studio to be open near them, Lindsay offers courses online. There are two six-week programs which are currently available. The first one is called “Ferocious Foundations”, and it’s designed for building strength and balance while getting “Zen AF!”
The second one focuses more on mobility and flexibility, and Lindsey calls it “Bendy and Badass.”
Each program includes 2 videos per week for $90, which is a bit cheaper compared to typical yoga studio fees, and these courses carry something which you’ll never get from typical hippy-dippy practice, a 100% bulls–t free guarantee.
Adios, Folks!
