British author Roald Dahl published the book Matilda in 1988. The novel tells the story of a brilliant young girl who is being neglected and mistreated by her family.

After years of Matilda being abused, she started pulling pranks on her family as vengeance.

she realized Eventually, that she actually had skill and power verging on the realm of magic.

People from all ages loved the story of a Matilda, it sent a clear message that you always can make a difference in your life, and in other peoples’ lives, regardless of the age or the state, you are in.

The American actor and filmmaker Danny DeVito, made a film based on the novel and the 9-year-old Mara Wilson played the role of Matilda in it.

Mara became a huge-star, she had appeared in Mrs. Doubtfire and Miracle on 34th Street. But for years, people saw her face and immediately name her Matilda.

But Mara’s personal life wasn’t perfect. For she had lost her mom who was battling cancer. Just after wrapping the filming of Matilda, her mom

Mara always loved reading growing up as a kid, and her mom had read Matilda to her as a bedtime story even before the role came up.

Mara’s mom thought that Matilda is an incredibly strong character, and she was the one who encouraged Mara to play the part.

Mara didn’t realize the importance the role will play in her life when Danny DeVito offered it to her.

Danny and his then-wife Rhea Perlman always invited Mara over for pool parties and events, and Mara always remembers the blast she used to have while working with the seasoned actors.

But on March 10, 1995, while Mara was filming Matilda, Suzie, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Danny and Rhea offered to watch Mara whenever her parents needed to go to the hospital.

 

After the filming for Matilda was over, Suzie’s condition got worse. She passed away 13 months after her diagnosis, on the 26th of April, 1996.

Mara was really devastated by her mom’s death, and so was her family, as she said in her memoir, Where Am I Now?

The book which Mara dedicated to her mom, describes an interaction that happened between Suzie and Danny, an interaction which Mara will ever be grateful for.

Since Suzie passed away before the release of the complete movie, for she passed before post-production was finished.

Mara was very upset from the fact that her mom who loved the story of Matilda so much because she never got the chance to see the final movie, but that wasn’t actually the case.

Danny told Mara after the death of Suzie, that he had already visited her in the hospital and allowed her to watch the complete film.

This news has finally given Mara a peace of mind, knowing that her mother had seen the project she was always so proud of.

Although Danny DeVito played a horrible father in Matilda, he proved time and time again that he is actually a warmhearted man.
